MERCURY MARINE’S BELGIUM PLANT RECEIVES CHAIRMAN’S SAFETY AWARD

Mercury Belgium

Mercury Marine’s distribution plant in Petit-Rechain recently received the Brunswick Corporation Chairman’s Safety Award for excellence in safety and employee engagement.  Petit-Rechain is the first distribution facility to win the prestigious Chairman’s Safety Award.  The presentation held last week in Belgium, featured Brunswick Corporation CEO Dustin McCoy, Mercury Marine president John Pfeifer and other executives at the company.

The plant is currently running at close to three years without a reported accident.

In conjunction with this award, Brunswick will donate $10,000 US dollars (about € 9,000) on behalf of Petit-Rechain employees to a charitable organization of their choice. The safety committee chose to donate the prize to the Verviers branch of Relay for Life.

“We have been working hard on our safety initiatives and every employee is fully engaged in a safety culture throughout the EMEA organization,” said Mike Shedivy, president of Mercury Marine Europe, Middle East and Africa. “Our employees have a long term relationship with Relay for Life and will have a team in the upcoming race at the end of September.”

During the presentation, Mercury executives also presented LSS green belt certifications to two employees for their outstanding work and dedication in making the Petit-Rechain distribution the safest facility in Europe.

In addition to the awards, executives took a tour of the facility, met with employees and engaged in further safety training including fire extinguishing techniques, CPR, and other initiatives important to the company.

“This is just the start,” said Shedivy. “The bar has been raised.  We are working every day on goals for 2016 and beyond.  Safety is our number one priority and we will continue to educate our employees to make Mercury Marine EMEA the safest and most efficient company to work for in Europe.”
