Mercury Racing 500R named Top Product

Mercury Racing 500R

May 21, 2024

Mercury Racing, a Fond du Lac, Wis.-based global provider of high-performance marine propulsion, collected its third accolade for the 500R outboard when Boating Industry magazine named it a Top Product for 2024.

The Mercury Racing 500R made the list of 50 of the marine industry’s best new and innovative products, announced May 1 by the editors of Boating Industry magazine, a leading business publication for marine industry professionals. Products were selected based on their impact on the boating industry, innovation and advancement of a product category.

Introduced in June 2023, the 500R delivers more than 500 horsepower with a 4.6-liter 64-degree FourStroke powerhead boosted by an exclusive Mercury Racing supercharger. To handle this level of power and satisfy the most demanding performance boat owners, the 500R features upgraded components in the powerhead, cooling system, midsection and steering systems. Innovations include the exclusive Advanced Racing Core (ARC) midsection, which enhances the engine’s durability and performance, and a new attenuator and throttle body designed for improved airflow. Mercury Racing also designed an all-new gearcase, the R-Drive, specifically for the 500R outboard and available in two versions to accommodate a variety of applications. The R-Drive features a crescent leading edge and long aspect torpedo hydrodynamically tuned for high speeds. The 500R is the first outboard in the industry to offer Humidity Compensation Technology to optimize performance across varying atmospheric conditions.

In selecting the 500R for inclusion in its Top Products list, Boating Industry noted that Mercury Racing “elevated its outboard engine power and technology with the supercharged 4.6L V8 500R” and cited its class-leading power-to-weight ratio, hailing the 500R as a “powerhouse full of technology advancements.”

The performance, innovation and technology of the 500R continue to garner attention and awards from the marine industry, adding to a tally that includes innovation awards from Boating Magazine and the National Marine Manufacturers Association (Miami International Boat Show) earlier this year.

The engine can be installed on new boats or used for repower applications. To learn more about the 500R, visit mercuryracing.com/500R.
