News: Dock Shoppe Has Moved

new location at Outer Harbour Marina

Aug 26, 2025

Changing a store’s location can be complicated for the operation – packing, trucking unpacking.   But when the shop lives on a barge, it’s just a question of slipping the docklines and moving to a new home.

The Dock Shoppe chandlery has been run by Mike Pecar since 1987 in a number of locations: Harbourfront Pier 4, Queen’s Quay, Harbourfront again across the road next to the beer store and more recently took over the Bobbin, a barge moored in The Ship Channel off Cherry Street in Toronto’s port lands that had previously been home to Bob Mew’s Hurricane Canvas. The Dock Shoppe store is a very attractive retail environment floating on the barge foundation.

With the massive changes and accompanying heavy construction in Toronto’s east waterfront, it’s been something of a challenge to navigate to the facility. That will be made much easier with the Shoppe’s move eastward.

Last month the whole kit, kaboodle, and boating gear shelves were floated to a new home in the Outer Harbour Marina. Not every store can pick up and leave its address, but when the store is a boat, it’s as easy as calling a tugboat.
