New NMMA Report Highlights 2024 Canadian Economic & Boating Trends

Boating Statistical Abstract

Aug 12, 2025

NMMA has released its latest Canadian Economic Factoids report, providing a detailed snapshot of key national economic indicators and recreational boating trends from 2011 through 2024. The data is part of the Annual Canadian Recreational Boating Statistical Abstract—a resource available free to all NMMA Canada members.

Economic Growth Holds Steady

In 2024, Canada’s economy continued its measured recovery. Key highlights include:

            • Real GDP rose by 1.6%, reaching $2.4 trillion

            • Disposable income grew by 7.5%, topping $1.7 trillion—its strongest gain in three years

            • Personal expenditures increased by 2.4%, with consistent growth across all four quarters

While business confidence improved to an average of 74 (peaking in spring), consumer confidence remained below 70 for most of the year, averaging 65.6.

Boating Participation on the Rise

The report also highlights encouraging momentum in Canada’s recreational boating sector:

            • Over 162,000 Pleasure Craft Operator Cards were issued in 2024—a 2.2% increase year-over-year

            • Ontario and Quebec led in total volume, while Nova Scotia saw the highest growth rate at 15.8%

These indicators suggest a healthy appetite for boating access and safety training across the country, with regional participation trends continuing to shift.
