ZF Marine Propulsion Systems Miramar LLC regretfully announces the passing of Mr. AJ Halavacs, Pleasure Craft Product Line Manager, North and Central America. BOATERSKILLS.CA – NEW GROUP TRAINING PROGRAM
BoaterSkills.ca instructors Craig Hamilton and Bob Minielly were at South Bay Cove Marina, Georgian Bay, for two days of boater training. SAFETY in CLOSE QUARTERS is a new program offering to marinas and their members which combines a docking and close-quarters seminar in the morning, followed by two hours of on-board instruction with each boater.

PRE-ORDERS AVAILABLE FOR ABYC STANDARDS UPDATES
Discounted pre-orders are available through July 1 for the annual update to the Standards and Technical Information Reports for Small Craft. Supplement 54, published by the American Boat and Yacht Council, coincides with the association's 60th anniversary year. Among the many important ABYC standards changes in the 2014-2015 supplement is H-41 Reboarding Means, Ladders, Handholds, Rails and Lifelines. Based on a project conducted by ABYC with a USCG grant, it reflects the test results on reboarding ladder rung depths and angles. -

The boating community would like to extend its condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Christopher (Chris) Cuddy who passed away on Tuesday June 3, 2014. Chris worked at various marinas including Marina Quay West, Toronto Island Marina, Peterborough Marina, and most recently Port Elgin Harbour in 2013. -

BRUNSWICK BOAT GROUP & MERCURY MARINE LEND THEIR SUPPORT TO NMMA IN THE FIGHT AGAINST E15
Brunswick Boat Group and Mercury Marine are encouraging boaters and dealers to follow the lead of the Outdoor Power Equipment Institute (OPEI) and the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) as they continue to advocate the “Look Before You Pump” campaign aimed at the prevention of E15 in marine engines. E15 is gasoline that contains 15 percent ethanol and is extremely harmful to marine engines. -

MARTYRS’ SHRINE CELEBRATES THE SECOND ANNUAL BLESSING OF BOATS & WATERWAYS
The second annual Blessing of Boats & Waterways was hosted on Saturday June 7th at the town docks in Midland. The event saw 28 boats take part in the blessing. The Martyrs’ Shrine worked closely with Parkbridge Marinas to organize the celebration in time for the beginning of the boating season. Father Bernard Carroll, SJ of the Martyrs’ Shrine carried out the duties of the blessing while standing upon the bow of a 65’ Linwood Huckins yacht, W.F. Morneau’s “LaBelle Helene.” The occasion was made all that much better because we were blessed with a beautiful sunny day.
