SABRE 38 BENEFITS FROM YANMAR 8LV ENGINES & ZF POD DRIVES

Sabre 38

Combining the fine craftsmanship of a Maine-built, Downeast style yacht with lightweight and efficient diesel engines, the Sabre 38 Salon Express offers power in an elegant package. Twin Yanmar 370 mhp 8LV engines and ZF2800 pleasure-duty rated Pod Drives deliver performance and precision handling as an option on the Sabre 38.

"Yanmar engines provide an excellent fit for our motor yachts," said Bentley Collins, Sabre Yachts VP of sales and marketing. "Their V-8 engines are extremely smooth running and offer the fast acceleration Sabre customers expect. Yanmar 8LV engines also have an optimum power/weight ratio."  In recent performance tests, the Yanmar diesels and ZF Pod Drives pushed the Sabre 38 from idle to plane in 5 seconds.

Cruising speed was 30.6 kts @3,600 rpm and maximum speed @3,855 rpm was over 33 kts. Available in 320 as well as 370 mhp, the Yanmar 8LV series features a dry weight of only 992 lbs., making these engines among the lightest in their class. They combine diesel advantages such as fuel economy and durability with the high-end performance delivered by comparable V-8 gas engines. The 8LV series complies with EPA Tier 3 requirements.

This turbocharged engine utilizes a direct injection common-rail system for optimum acceleration. Yanmar's CAN-bus control system simplifies controls, displays, cabling and wiring.

The Sabre 38 Salon Express represents the best of Maine boatbuilding heritage while displaying cutting-edge design. Her V- hull lines, specifically engineered for the installation of pod drives, offer increased economy. Thanks to the ZF Pod's horizontal thrust, the Yanmar engine's full power pushes the boat forward with no wasted motion. The pods provide unprecedented handling and maneuvering with an intuitive and simple joystick control system. Included in the package is the ZF iAnchor, a patented station-keeping function that automatically maintains a set position even in wind and currents.
