TORQEEDO PRESENTS EXTENSIVE INNOVATION AT METS

Torqeedo Deep Blue

In addition to its first hybrid drive system, Torqeedo displayed a compelling array of new products for the 2015 season at the Marine Equipment Trade Show (METS) in Amsterdam. The company is launching even more powerful drive systems to coincide with its 10th anniversary and bringing new innovations in service, convenience and power generation.

The successful Deep Blue range has expanded to include a hybrid drive system as a 40, 80 and 160 hp equivalent. An interactive presentation at the trade show will demonstrate how this groundbreaking system supplies the energy for the hybrid drive and all the power requirements on board from the wind and sun. An additional generator is no longer needed for the refrigerator, HVAC or other house loads since the silent and eco-friendly system generator can power the vessel if nature fails to cooperate.

“A hybrid solution was the next logical development for the award-winning Deep Blue system. Deep Blue Hybrid is an intriguing option for sailboats between 40′ and 70′ and for professionally operated vessels,” said founder and managing director Dr. Christoph Ballin, explaining Torqeedo’s latest innovation. “We are certain this quiet, luxurious and clean system will appeal to boat owners and the boatbuilders who serve them.”

The hybrid solution is just one of the expansions of the impressive Deep Blue family. The powerful electric outboard motor will also be available as a tiller model in response to customers’ desire to convert the motor for special applications, and the Deep Blue inboard can be ordered as a 40 or 80 hp equivalent, with two different transmission ratios (1,400 and 1,800 rpm).

The new generation of the Cruise outboard motor also takes the stage at METS. It is now even more suited to the extreme conditions of commercial use and has greater resistance to seawater thanks to a new solid aluminum housing and aluminum-reinforced fin. This makes the outboard even more attractive for boats up to 4 tons that are in regular operation.

The Travel, Torqeedo’s best-seller for tenders, dinghies and sailboats up to 1.5 tons, has now been equipped with a USB adapter on the battery, allowing the owner to charge smartphones, digital cameras or other gear while underway. Charging times have been cut dramatically: from nine hours to three for the Travel 503 – and the Travel 1003 now needs just five hours to fully recharge its battery, down from 15 hours. The Travel also boasts a new protective cover for the shaft head as an option.

The new “Sunfold 37” solar charger, which can be attached to the Travel, is lighter, smaller and easier to handle than the previous solar charger. The monocrystalline high-performance solar cells with 37 W nominal output power can not only supply power to the Travel’s battery but to all other 12-volt electric devices.

TorqTrac, Torqeedo’s new app, provides all of the motor information on the display of a tablet or smartphone – and the remaining range for the Ultralight 403, Travel 503/1003 or Cruise 2.0/4.0 is presented clearly on a map. Features such as waypoints and the exact calculation of arrival times assure boaters always have enough power to complete their trip. The app is available for iOS and Android, and can be connected to the outboard via Bluetooth, with an adapter available for purchase.

As of July 1st, 2024 the embargo is lifted on the photos and information about Four Winns’ new H9 model and it is stunning!

About a month ago, I traveled to Charlevoix, MI for a special press event to introduce the H9 to a small group of journalists. The water and the weather were a bit cool but the sun was out and Lake Charlevoix was calm and the Four Winns H9 was very impressive. This is a 29-foot 11-inch luxury day boat with a 9- foot 2-inch beam and it features a fabulous expansive flat floor all the way from the bow rider area to the transom and the swim platform.
