TRENT-SEVERN HISTORIC SITE: FENELON FALLS LOCK 34 INVESTMENT

Trent Severn Lock 34

Feb 19, 2016

Parks Canada is pleased to provide an update on work announced in June 2015 that will develop a design concept and architectural plan, for the construction of a renewed Fenelon Falls lockstation building.

Preliminary work is underway that will guide Parks Canada’s decision to either rehabilitate the existing Lock 34 control building or construct a new building that will better fulfil operational needs. The final design will honour the history of the site and provide a more suitable space for visitors.

Workers will be onsite at Lock 34 in Fenelon Falls on February 19 to conduct an analysis of the soil and soil structure through geotechnical investigation. The geotechnical work will entail digging with a small excavator and a small drill rig around the lockstation building, which will inform parts of the concept design for the renewed lock station building.

As the project progresses, Parks Canada will meet with members of the community of Fenelon Falls and the surrounding area to discuss how a renewed lock site can best meet community needs in the future, and provide updates on the status of this important project.
