UPDATE ON CHANCE OF A LABOUR DISRUPTION AT BC PLACE

BC Place logo

Late last week, the show managers sent out a message to all exhibitors saying there could be a possible labour disruption at BC Place, one of the venues for the Vancouver International Boat Show. Show organizers felt it was important that exhibitors hear information directly from Canadian Boat Shows or BCMTA related to communications on this topic.

Members of the BC Government and Services Employees Union (BCGEU) have provided strike notice to BC Place, allowing their membership to be in a legal strike position on/after Monday, January 28, 2013.

BC Place and BCGEU are continuing to work together on their collective agreement issues, and are committed to securing a positive outcome.

Exhibitors should continue planning for their upcoming participation in the 2013 Vancouver Boat Show.

On Monday, January 28th, 2013, we spoke directly to Linda Waddell, Show Director who told us that BC Place had a "Contingency plan developed to minimize disruption to upcoming events."

Linda Waddell added that Chinese New Year celebrations are scheduled to be held at BC Place this coming weekend with potentially 100,000 people attending. She also emphasized that both sides are looking for a resolution this week.

Waddell and the show organizers instruct exhibitors that move-in will proceed next Monday as scheduled and that they look forward to the week of February 4th, and working together on another successful show.
