VICTORIA-BASED BOAT SECURITY AND MONITORING COMPANY TO REPRESENT CANADA AT CONSUMER ELECTRONICS SHOW

BRNKL App

Jan 8, 2019

BRNKL by Barnacle Systems will be exhibiting on the global stage at CES 2019 alongside other Canadian companies at the Canadian Pavilion in Las Vegas.

Barnacle Systems Inc. has reinvented how people check on their boats. Their product, BRNKL (pronounced barnacle), is like a “home security system for your boat” allowing users to check in on their vessel remotely from their smartphone, tablet, or computer. Based in Victoria, BC, and founded in July of 2017, Barnacle Systems has already seen success locally as VIATEC’s 2018 “Startup of the Year” and is now being thrust into the global spotlight having been given the privilege to represent Canada at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2019. Barnacle Systems will be exhibiting BRNKL in the Canadian Pavilion as a Delegate of Canada. As “The Global Stage for Innovation,” with more than 4,500 exhibiting companies and 182,000 industry professionals from around the world, CES has served as the proving ground for innovators and breakthrough technologies for 50+ years.

“Representing Canada and the boating industry at CES 2019 is a dream come true,” explains Barnacle Systems Founder, Brandon Wright. “Our team has worked extremely hard to get to where we are today, we have spent countless hours listening to our customers in order to develop a security and monitoring product for boats that mimics the technology available for ‘smart homes’.”

While at CES 2019, Brandon will be able to keep an eye on his own boat located in Mill Bay. Through the BRNKL app he will be able to see inside of his vessel, receive GPS alerts, and know the status of his batteries, shore power connection and most importantly know if water is entering his boat.

Having deployed systems as far away as Portugal, boaters from around the world are now gaining peace of mind due to this new innovation.

The Barnacle Systems’ founding team consists of Vancouver Island locals. Brandon Wright grew up in Comox and completed Electrical Engineering at the University of Victoria. Sean Battistoni, having also graduated from the University of Victoria, grew up in Victoria and managed Marina Operations for the Oak Bay Marine Group. Nick Van Doorn, the team’s software lead, grew up in Victoria and lives by the mantra “talk is cheap, show me the code.”
