“The attraction and retention of talent is key for the future and the success of Princecraft. The employer of choice award is a great tool for Princecraft to keep developing our relations with our employees.” Rodier Grondin – President, Princecraft

The recreational marine industry in Canada is vibrant, vast and innovative. It is a tremendous economic driver in the communities where boating is enjoyed. But like any other sector, to grow and stay competitive, it needs a steady supply of dedicated, hard-working employees. This has been a major challenge in this sector.

In order for marine businesses to attract and retain great staff, they need to demonstrate that they provide a superior work experience. This includes offering things like – training and development, career opportunities, competitive pay, safe and healthy work environment, strong/supportive/caring leadership, work/life harmony and family friendly culture.

One of the best ways to demonstrate your superior workplace culture is to be recognized as an Employer of Choice.

The Boating Industry Canada Employer of Choice (BICEOC) Award is the industry's only "Made-in-Canada" recognition for the recreational marine industry, coast to coast.

It’s a simple three step process…

Step 1: Application – Go to biceoc.com and fill out the registration form.

Step 2: Organizational Profile – This is a WORD document where you need to describe your leadership attributes and HR benefits. (“Leadership Questionnaire and HR checklist”). The document will be provided once the application has been approved.

Step 3: Employee Commitment Survey – 10-minute online survey.

How does the scoring work?

A weighted scoring system is used to determine the winners. All participating organizations must achieve a minimum of 75% on the assessment to claim the award. The Leadership Questionnaire accounts for 30%, the HR Inventory is 20% and the Employee Commitment Survey represents 50%. All stages of the assessment process must be fully completed and submitted on or before the indicated deadlines.

Reports include overall score, category scores, top five/bottom five scoring statements, all statement scores in graphical layout and demographics. You'll also receive a list of employee comments, benchmark data and an Action Plan template for developing a plan for continuous improvement. These reports will help you build a better culture, improve employee engagement and determine how you stack up against the best in your sector.

Electric Boat

The 10th edition of the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge (MEBC) has wrapped up at the Yacht Club de Monaco (YCM) and it gives a compelling look at the future of electric boating.

The MEBC was started in 2014 as a competition between university teams who built and raced boats powered only by solar power and batteries. To encourage more participation from institutions that may not have naval architecture or boat construction expertise, the YCM introduced the Energy Class competition. The club supplies the student teams with the same one-design catamaran hull, and each team adds their own cockpit and propulsion system that can be powered by any renewable alternative energy sources, not just solar.

Questus Radar Mount

Questus Marine patented, Self-Leveling Radar Mounts automatically keep radar antennas level with the horizon, eliminating target loss.

Regardless of the angle of heel, with a Questus mount, a radar antenna will pick up targets to either side of a vessel, rather than aiming to the sky and water (for planes and fish). The Questus Marine Self-Leveling Radar Mount can be installed in three basic configurations: backstay mount, mast mount or Stern Pole mount.
