BC Boat ShowCelebrating its 30th anniversary, the BC Boat Show returns to Sidney April 30 - May 3 and will be held for the third year at Port Sidney Marina. The event is the perfect opportunity to join thousands of boating enthusiasts at the West Coast’s largest in-the-water boat show.

The BC Yacht Brokers Association, hosts of the BC Boat Show, are proud to announce that in celebration of the 30th, this year’s show will be bigger than ever. With visitors from across British Columbia, Alberta and Washington State, and dozens of exhibitors, the seaside town of Sidney will be transformed for the weekend.

There’s no better way to be prepared for months of outdoor adventures than by visiting the large exhibitor showcase, and touring the hundreds of different boats. Watercraft of every kind will be on display and ranges from paddle boards, kayaks and inflatables to power and sailing vessels of every size. Professional brokerages bring a large inventory of vessels to the show and will be there to welcome attendees aboard to tour the boats of their dreams. There are also goods and services represented in the large tented pavilion. From outboards, dinghies and navigation equipment to rigging, boat yards and chandlery, as well as recreation gear, fishing equipment and clothing - you’ll find everything you need for a safe and enjoyable boating lifestyle.

Boat Show Manager, Steven Threadkell, is excited about the prospect of another busy show: “There’s something really special about stepping aboard a boat in the water. And to be at Port Sidney Marina, the gateway to one of the best cruising destinations in the world, you’ve got a perfect recipe for magic and imagination to celebrate the 30th anniversary. I’m looking forward to another sunny weekend viewing and getting aboard boats and anticipating the season ahead.”

The floating beer garden is also back this year where the show’s visitors (and exhibitors) can enjoy fresh cooked food and a beer or wine. Come on Saturday, May 2 and also enjoy the ArtSea ART Walk, where up to 50 artists will be set up around the waterfront, sketching and painting. It makes for a festival atmosphere, the whole family can find something to keep them entertained - you can even bring your dog!

For visitors to the Island, the BC Boat Show is providing a shuttle bus from the Swartz Bay ferry terminal and from the convenient free parking at the top of Beacon Avenue. Make a weekend of it and enjoy all that Sidney and the surrounding areas have to offer including beautiful beaches, forest hikes, restaurants, shopping and many visitor attractions.

Online registration for exhibitors is now open.

Electric Boat

The 10th edition of the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge (MEBC) has wrapped up at the Yacht Club de Monaco (YCM) and it gives a compelling look at the future of electric boating.

The MEBC was started in 2014 as a competition between university teams who built and raced boats powered only by solar power and batteries. To encourage more participation from institutions that may not have naval architecture or boat construction expertise, the YCM introduced the Energy Class competition. The club supplies the student teams with the same one-design catamaran hull, and each team adds their own cockpit and propulsion system that can be powered by any renewable alternative energy sources, not just solar.

Questus Radar Mount

Questus Marine patented, Self-Leveling Radar Mounts automatically keep radar antennas level with the horizon, eliminating target loss.

Regardless of the angle of heel, with a Questus mount, a radar antenna will pick up targets to either side of a vessel, rather than aiming to the sky and water (for planes and fish). The Questus Marine Self-Leveling Radar Mount can be installed in three basic configurations: backstay mount, mast mount or Stern Pole mount.
