Starting April 30, Canadian Yachting Media will launch a new webinar series. Rob MacLeod, Canadian Yachting magazine contributor, will host the webinars that will look at various aspects of boating and boat maintenance.

The first webinar, 12-Volt System: The Basics, will present proper installation and maintenance of your boat’s 12-volt system from battery to device, including battery selection (lead-acid or AGM), cable selection, cable terminals, bus bars, isolators, combiners (automatic charger relays), fuse selection, distribution panels and DC appliances.

Joining Rob is Rod Brandon (Sheen Marine – ABYC Marine Electrical Certified Technician – www.sheenmarine.com) to explain the changes in wiring standards and the importance of updating your boat’s systems for both safety and enjoyment. As the owner/operator of Sheen Marine, Rod Brandon provides “Total Yacht Care” services for boaters in south central Ontario. In addition, he consults with cruisers around the world to help with all types of vessel maintenance, repair, and improvement needs. For this webinar series, Rod provides technical advice to help assure safe and reliable system design and implementation to professional marine association electrical standards (ABYC and NMEA) and sound industry practices.

Included in the webinar will be a demonstration of the what a typical modern electrical installation should look like and how it should operate, including video of wire connections, component installation and function, and safe practices and installation tips. The association is very well supported and virtually any significant marine electronics company that you could name, was represented there on the Exhibitor list at the Expo as well as all being NMEA members and very supportive of the organization.
