VANCOUVER INTERNATIONAL BOAT SHOW: TECHNOLOGY & INNOVATION ON DISPLAY

Greenline 39

Jan 29, 2019

The Vancouver International Boat Show will provide boating enthusiasts with a first look at 2019 premiere models, accessories, amenities, more than 100 seminars – and an array of entertaining guest appearances. However, the event will also put on display, the latest in technology and innovation.

Just as many motorists are looking for a green alternative – so too are boating enthusiasts. To that end, SV Business Group will be debuting the Greenline 39 and 48 at this year’s Show. As SV suggests: Diesel or electric? Hybrid! All it takes is a flip of a switch to turn a diesel driven boat into full electric and back. Straightforward and simple. She sails without smoke, noise or waves in electric mode and drastically reduces the amount of fossil fuel used during a boating season at sea, on lakes or inland waterways.

One of the challenges for would-be boating enthusiasts who live in an apartment or condo is the question of where do I store my boat – and FRibs may be the solution. The F-RIB 275 is only nine-feet in length and can be folded to fit into the truck of a car- and later packed away. Perfect for those who don’t have space to store a boat but want to get out and enjoy the water.  The F-RIB 275 can be assembled and inflated in less than 5 minutes with no hassle and extra parts to worry about. These compact inflatable boats have a rigid fiberglass hull making them very resistable to wear and tear.

… in a matter of minutes

Many home-owners have used modern technology to develop a Smart Home to make their day-to-day lives more efficient – and the same convenience is being applied to water craft. A perfect example is the North River ’35 – one of best aluminum boats in the industry and being unveiled at this year’s Show by Port Boat House. Traditionally, any series of functions on a boat are operated manually. However, through a Digital Switching feature, an operator can control much of the electrical distribution and function through a single screen to turn music on, dim the lights, activate the fresh water pump – or engage an air conditioning system. And when disembarking, one-touch switches the lights off and engages the alarm system. State of the art – and a model for efficiency.

Living on the West Coast, there are few things more precious than our pristine waterways and the Boat Show will provide an opportunity for some serious discussion on emergency spill response. A featured vessel is the Hecate Sentinel, a 65-foot Ocean Class Oil Spill Response Vessel which is smaller, faster and more efficient than older unsheltered water vessels. Once on-scene, the boom arms can be deployed within minutes. Two onboard skimming brushes have a combined skimming capacity of 32.8 tonnes per hour. The Hecate provides Western Canada Marine Response Corp. with an improved water rapid response and night time operations capacity.

And of course the Boat Show is about more than boats. Take for example, the The Lift eFoil allows riders to experience flight over almost any body of water at up to 40 km/h, no waves or towing required. The Lift eFoil uses a state of the art lithium ion battery, a hydrodynamic, torpedo designed, electric propulsion unit along with custom electronics. It also features a high performance carbon fiber board and hydrofoil to give users the ultimate riding experience.
