Apr 11, 2023The new Shadow-Caster Light Commander PLUS is the next generation in marine lighting control. Like its award-winning predecessor, the NMEA 2000® compatible device provides plug-and-play lighting management through a networked multifunction display. The PLUS model adds Ethernet connectivity. It also provides industry-first seamless integration across all of a vessel's control interfaces and digital systems, including live updates of light status across all connected displays.
Engineered specifically for marine use, the Light Commander PLUS supports up to six lighting zones per module and is expandable to 18 zones. It provides native support for four separate channels of RGB or RGB(W). The user can fully customize assignments of channels and devices to lighting zones, as well as easily create a library of lighting scenes with multiple color fade and rotation, and music sync functions.
It also has six instant-on momentary switch inputs. This makes the Light Commander PLUS ideal for managing everything from basic on-off navigation or utility lights to advanced customization of accent, courtesy and underwater illumination. A video is at bit.ly/LightCommanderPLUS.The Light Commander PLUS provides an industry-first level of interface solutions. It can connect to both Ethernet and NMEA 2000 networks and live update the other no matter where a lighting change is made: multifunction display lighting menu, digital switching menu or through Shadow-Caster's Shadow-NET bus HTML interface. The device will also connect to Shadow-Caster's backlit Zone Controller remote keypad.
At only 8.9" L x 4.75" W x 1.8" H, the compact IP67-rated Light Commander PLUS enclosure is easily mounted in the smallest dash or console. With a 10V to 30V input range, it supports 15A per RGB(W) zone with a maximum of 60A. Deutsch connectors allow for fast and easy wiring. Shadow-Caster was an integral part of the NMEA Lighting Working Group that developed the current industry standards. It manufactures in the USA, a wide array of underwater, interior and exterior marine lighting fixtures, and NMEA-compatible controls.

Monaco Energy Boats Could Be Heading to Canada
The 10th edition of the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge (MEBC) has wrapped up at the Yacht Club de Monaco (YCM) and it gives a compelling look at the future of electric boating.
The MEBC was started in 2014 as a competition between university teams who built and raced boats powered only by solar power and batteries. To encourage more participation from institutions that may not have naval architecture or boat construction expertise, the YCM introduced the Energy Class competition. The club supplies the student teams with the same one-design catamaran hull, and each team adds their own cockpit and propulsion system that can be powered by any renewable alternative energy sources, not just solar.
