IMPORTANT CHANGES TO LICENSING OF PLEASURE CRAFT
On July 13, 2015 the Office of Boating Safety Transport Canada changed the system of licensing pleasure craft in Canada. Unfortunately, no notice was issued to dealers informing them of this change. As a result, a number of questions have arisen regarding the licensing of pleasure craft.
The new system entitled “Pleasure Craft Electronic Licensing System” is to be completed by the purchaser of the vessel. There is also the ability for dealers to use the new system for licensing boats. For further details, requirements and forms for the new system please visit the Transport Canada website at http://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/marinesafety/debs-obs-news-menu-3215.htm
All license applications which were applied for before the new system came into effect July12, 2015 will be processed under the old system. Licensing Applications applied for after July 12, 2015 will be processed using the new system.
The new system must be applied for online. Faxes will not be allowed under the new system. A photograph of the boat is required with the application.
Any dealer having a question with vessel licensing should call the office for assistance.
