Calgary Show Wrapup 2016

Feb 19, 2016

The 2016 Calgary Boat and Sportsmen’s Show took place February 4-7th, at the BMO Centre, Stampede Park.

The four day Show saw over 17,850 die hard outdoor enthusiasts make their way through the doors of the BMO Centre. “Even in these uncertain economic times, families are drawn to outdoor activities that every member, no matter what the age, can participate in and enjoy,” said Pamela Ziwani, Assistant Show Manager – Alberta, ” the outdoor lifestyle is unique in that many of the activities can be enjoyed no matter what the budget, as well,  it provides an opportunity to expose future generations to all the great outdoors has to offer.”

Safari Jeff’s TRIASSIC:  Dawn of the Reptiles was a big hit among young show goers.  This engaging and interactive presentation was a definite highlight for many families. The Kid’s Scavenger Hunt, Kids Fishing Pond, Alberta Birds of Prey Presentations and the Alberta Hunter Education Instructor’s Association exhibits continue to be family favourites.

With over 20 million dollars in marine products and boats on display there was no better place to shop and compare than at the Calgary Boat and Sportsmen’s Show.   Show goers spend hours checking out the extensive selection; everything from personal watercraft to pontoon boats, many securing some of the best prices of the season on the watercraft of their dreams.

The Fishin’ Hole’s 33 Hour Savings Fishtacular was a must stop for all the fishermen in the crowd.  The selection and variety of fishing related gear had many stocking up for the season ahead.

Brad Fenson’s brand new “Cooking Wild” presentation was a crowd pleaser, as were the tasty samples provided to the audience. The Outdoor Present Stage played host to some of Canada’s most renowned outdoorsmen including;  TJSchwanky, Vanessa Harrop, Richard Mellon, Sandi Mellon, Wes David and Claudio Ongaro.  These experts shared stories, tips and insights to interested audiences throughout the weekend.

The Bigfoot Field Research Organization (BFRO) Town Hall meeting which was held on Friday evening was an excellent opportunity for those interested in the Sasquatch phenomenon to find out the latest and most current information on sighting and research as well as share their personal stories of encounters in the hopes of one day proving or disproving the existence of Sasquatch.

The Show wrapped up on Sunday, February 7th with 22 qualifiers vying for the Husqvarna Spring Clean Up Package valued at over $3,000.00.  Steve R was the last man standing in the elimination style draw and walked away with everything he will ever need to clean up his yard for the Spring.

The 2024 Marine Electronics Conference & Expo, held by the National Marine Electronics Association, (NMEA) took place September 16 to the 20th in Providence, Rhode Island. Boating Industry Canada was there for the first time and we were very impressed with what we found.

The association is very well supported and virtually any significant marine electronics company that you could name, was represented there on the Exhibitor list at the Expo as well as all being NMEA members and very supportive of the organization.
