POSITIVE ACTION ON MARINE INDUSTRY LABOUR SHORTAGES

Rick Layzell and Rob Davidson

Nov 13, 2018

Check out this quick video – Andy Adams of Boating Industry Canada talked to Rob Davidson, Program Coordinator for the Marine and Small Engine Program and Apprenticeships for Georgian College, and Rick Layzell, CEO of Boating Ontario about ways they are taking positive action to address the labour shortages in the marine industry.

Boating Ontario has lead the way with important ground work including a comprehensive Marine Tech salary survey, creating a new education financial assistance program called Marine Worx Development Fund and they will be addressing the issue of succession planning and retirement at the Boating Ontario Conference this November 26-28 at Blue Mountain.

We took the cameras to Georgian College to do this interview and see some of the students during class.

Also, take a moment to add your input to our Succession Planning Survey in this edition of News Week. We need all the information we can gather to help staff up for what we believe are the coming wave of transitions.
