At the Toronto International Boat Show starting January 18th, you can see the always interesting ACBS Toronto display of antique and classic boats. If you have an interest in this, drop by and speak to the people in the display. They are all volunteers and they are happy to talk.

ACBS – Toronto, (the Antique & Classic Boat Society – Toronto chapter) is all about the people, (and of course the boats). The willingness of our members to step forward and volunteer for a wide range of positions and tasks has been the strength of the organization since its inception.

It takes a lot of volunteers to assist with the numerous ACBS events, from TIBS, to the Spring Tour, to the Summer Boat Show, ensuring that these events continue. Volunteers are always needed, and appreciated.

At present the ACBS is looking for volunteers to take a more active role with a few key positions. The positions they are looking to fill are Secretary for the Board of Directors and ClassicBoat Editor.

The responsibilities of the Secretary are as follows:

Work closely with the President in organizing ACBS-Toronto Monthly Board Meetings.  Ensure the dates of the Board Meetings have been communicated to all Directors, the facility and catering is arranged for the meetings.  Write the 1st Draft of the Agenda, organize and host Executive Call, ensure all Directors have been invited to the Meeting and a quorum will be present.  During the meeting, take notes and then create the meeting Minutes and send it out to all board members.  Organize and execute the Annual General Meeting of Members.

The ClassicBoat Editor has the following responsibilities:

Working with the Editorial Committee, compile and edit material of interest to club members for ClassicBoat Magazine. Ensure that all upcoming club events are promoted and past events are covered. Work with the graphic artist for layout and proofreaders to prepare final copy. Co-ordinate inserts for each issue. Liaise with membership director to ensure mailing lists are complete and submitted. Liaise with other organizations to ensure promotion/coverage of their events as applicable. Provide regular updates to the Board of Directors.

No matter what your own boating interests might be, you would surely enjoy becoming friends with the other members of the ACBS and if you could take on either of these critically important positions, even better. If you are interested in this and considering volunteering please contact Scott Dunsmoor, scott.dunsmoor@allweld.ca or Mike Gridley, mikegidley55@gmail.com.

Either way, do stop in to the display at TIBS!
