BOATING ONTARIO TACKLES THE GOVERNMENT FOR THEIR MEMBERS EFFECTED BY HIGH WATERS
Sept 17, 2019
Boating Ontario has notified their members on the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River that if their company has been affected – IN ANY WAY – by the high waters on the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River in 2019, that it is time to have the industry’s collective voices heard. Boating Ontario is working in the background with their Ottawa contacts and one comment that has been heard often is that the politicians in the Province of Ontario aren’t speaking about this issue. Together we can change this.
New York State is making tons of noise on behalf of their land and business owners and we need our own Ontario government to step up to the table. Boating Ontario asks that you please take a few moments to write to your local MP, MPP, Mayor, Councillors, etc. as they all need a copy of the attached letter.
As Boating Ontario has done in the past (eg: on the tariffs), using the attached letter is easy for you to add your logo to. Feel free to include relevant photos of high water on your property or specific details of lost income or employment within your business.
You don’t have to be ‘on the water’ to be affected by high water. If your sales or service business has lost income because boaters couldn’t boat or buyers delayed their purchases, then we ask you to participate. If your on-water property had to reduce staff hours because boaters weren’t boating, or your current infrastructure is or has been threatened or damaged, then we ask you to participate.
The Boating Ontario Team is also working with the MNRF on the Muskoka water levels challenge.
Please do this now. This really shouldn’t take any more than 5 minutes of your time. When writing your government officials, please copy Boating Ontario on the email.
