Like Playoff Hockey

It occurs to me that running your business this coming summer is a lot like playoff hockey. In many markets across the country we again face a short season, intense competition from all the other vacation options that were blocked during COVID, and the clock is running. Labour Day is coming.

The winning teams relay on their coaches to make smart choices, to motivate their players and to deal with the rapidly changing environment.

Boating Industry Canada News Week Digest has always supported our readers by offering you Career Opportunity ads without cost, in every edition, every week. If you need people, send in your Career Opportunities as soon as possible. As the coach at your business, you need the players with the right skills and you need a plan to help them do their best.

The Boating Industry Canada Employer of Choice program is an important resource for your best coaching. We don’t own this program, or even earn anything on it. It’s all about supporting the industry by offering this valuable personnel development resource.

As you staff up for the season, this is the best time of year to start the Boating Industry Canada Employer of Choice program with your team. There’s more information in this edition of Boating Industry Canada News Week Digest (here).

And, we have other ways to help the industry recruit the players you need. We have always offered our support to Georgian College, the Quadrant Marine Institute and of course, to all of Canada’s marine trade associations in their work to attract people into the industry and help with their training.

More editorial profiles of Marine Grads are planned in the coming months and we are carefully tracking Wendy and Brett Ramsey and the high school recruitment program they are doing. The Grad profiles are being written by our Associate Editor, Allegra Smith-Herriott and she wrote the report about the Skills Ontario Competition with our Publisher, Jill Snider who attended the event. Jill is a Georgian College grad and now serves on the committee.

We are doing our best to support you coach!
