Rob Davidson discusses the value of the Georgian College Marine Program

June 20, 2023

A career in Canada’s marine industry can easily lead to a great lifestyle and a comfortable living in our elegant and desirable cottage country. A career as a Marine Technician is a great entry to owning your own business too.

Boating Industry Canada recently interviewed Rob Davidson, the Marine Program Coordinator at Georgian College in Midland. Their three-year program can start a young person on a lifetime of business and family success with a comparatively modest investment, earning money almost all the way.

In this brief video, Rob Davidson discusses the value of the Georgian College 3-Year Marine and Small Engine Program and Apprenticeship course.

There are seats still available in the 2023 / 2024 school year. Through Boating Ontario and their Marine Worx program, there may also be financial supports available. To bring this to the attention of more young people at the high school level, Rob has visited schools from Orillia to Haliburton, Lindsay to Penetang and Midland. Rob estimates that he has spoken to over 500 students in the past two months.

Also, they have hosted several events at the Midland campus of Georgian College, engaging with students from Collingwood, Barrie and across Simcoe County where they participate in a one or two-hour hands-on practical event organized by the college. Georgian College also hosted 120 grade 7 / 8 students from Newmarket and Penetang over two days earlier in June. Mercury Marine has also assisted in this, helping to recruit and guide students in their marine careers where they may ultimately enter Mercury University and also take higher-level ABYC (American Boat & Yacht Council) courses.

Watch this brief video and share it with your family, summer staff and friends.
