Mercury Brownsburg

July 24, 2023

On July 18, Mercury Marine announced that its global distribution center in Brownsburg, Indiana has earned LEED Silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. The 512,000 square foot facility opened in October 2022 and supports Mercury’s industry leading parts and accessories business.

“We’re thrilled to have earned LEED Silver Certification for our global distribution center,” said John Buelow, Mercury Marine president. “This achievement is consistent with Mercury’s leadership in sustainability and I’m proud of our team’s commitment to our employees, customers, the Brownsburg community and the environment.”

Key focal points and strategies used to achieve this certification include:

  • The distribution center produces renewable energy with a roof-mounted solar array
  • The facility has a reduced parking footprint and designations for carpool and E-vehicles
  • The building incorporates special roofing material for heat island reduction
  • The distribution center features outdoor light pollution reduction
  • The building’s indoor and outdoor water systems use reduction fixtures
  • The facility features optimized energy performance compliant HVAC, lighting and appliances
  • The facility was constructed using all LEED certified building materials

Products received, warehoused, and shipped in the distribution center include engine maintenance tools, lubricants, and service-related parts and accessories. Mercury leveraged the most advanced distribution technologies in conveyance, scanning, and packaging to move products through the warehouse efficiently and accurately to serve its global customers.

LEED (leadership in energy and environmental design) is the most widely used green building rating system in the world and an international symbol of excellence in sustainable design, construction, and operations. LEED projects earn points by adhering to prerequisites and credits across nine measurements for building excellence, from integrative design to human health to material use.
