What is it that you like about your job? I have had the opportunity to learn all aspects of the Marine business, from entry level to my current management position. Interaction with our customers over the years has been the best part of my job. I have gotten to know my customers and their families and they have gotten to know mine. Providing the best customer service possibly to them is very satisfying.

Are there tasks or responsibilities that you dislike? Collecting money is not a favorite task, but it is a necessary one. The term "no cash, no splash" says it all and sometimes customers need to be gently reminded of that.

What are your overall feelings? For example, do you find it rewarding, challenging, steady, interesting etc. Please describe.: Boating is a culture, they are a different breed of person. I find the marine industry to be very rewarding and challenging. Builders come to the marina to relaxing getaway – taking care of the little things so they are able to do that is our mission.

What quality of life would you say your career in the marine industry has provided you? The marine industry has provided me with a great quality of life. I have been lucky to have always had year-round employment and the opportunity to learn everything from administration, parts, service and fuel dock operations. I have been at the same facility for 27 years with three different owners. I have received health benefits, year-round employment and the opportunity to learn on the job and move up through the ranks.

What else would you tell a young person about your life in the marine industry? The marine industry can be viewed as a male-dominated industry, but that is changing! I would encourage young people – both male and female to give it a go! Female tax, service writers and managers are becoming more common and should be encouraged and welcomed into our industry.
