Buckeye Hosts Charity Night and Raffle for Women’s Resources of Kawartha Lakes

As of September 18th, Buckeye Marine has started selling tickets in support of Women’s Resources of Kawartha Lakes, bedroom restoration project.

“The raffle marks the kick off of our work with Women’s Resources on their bedroom restoration project” states Carly Poole, marketing co-ordinator for Buckeye. “Annually Buckeye hosts a Product Preview & Charity Night on the Friday of Thanksgiving weekend. We are always looking for a worthy project in the community to help with and this year Women’s Resources’ bedroom project really struck a chord with our committee. Out of our joint planning committee with WR came the idea of having a raffle to lead up to the event and we are so excited about this opportunity to get out into the community.” Says Ms. Poole. “Not unlike other years that we have hosted this event we have already seen amazing support from local business owners in the community. Because of this we have some amazing prizes for this raffle that are sure to spark ticket sales.” says Poole.

“We can’t believe the generosity from local merchants” says Kathleen Wild, Fund Development & Marketing Coordinator for Women’s Resources. “For the raffle alone our prizes include:
GRAND PRIZE – A Trip for 2 to Quebec City (including Via 1 return, 3 nights stay at a superior hotel and a tour of the city valued at $2200). Courtesy of Kawartha Lakes Travel Plus & Simply Escape.
2nd Prize – A Happy Days Houseboat Rental. 3 day weekend or 4 day midweek. Sleeps 10 people. Valid May 21-Jun 14 or Sept 3 – Oct 18th 2013. Courtesy of Happy Days Houseboats.
3rd Prize – A two week Rotospa Hot Tub rental. Available Dec 1, 2012-Dec 1, 2013.

And this is only the beginning!” says Wild.

Raffle tickets will be sold at Buckeye Marine, by Women’s Resources volunteers and Buckeye Marine staff as well as at a select number of other local stores from Sept 18th to Oct 5th. One of the most exciting parts about this raffle is that the winners will be drawn live during Buckeye’s Product Preview and Charity Event. “We hope that this will spurn some excitement and encourage our local patrons and customers to make sure they have their invitation in hand and are onsite on Friday, Oct 5th at Buckeye. There is so much more in store and its all for an amazing cause.” says Poole.

Women’s Resources provides emergency shelter and counselling services to abused women and their children in the City of Kawartha Lakes. Their services include an 18 bed shelter, 24 hour crisis support line, risk assessment and safety planning, individual and group counselling services, Amy’s Second Stage housing, groups for children who have experienced violence, a resource library and Vicky’s Values Gently Used Clothing Boutique. Each year Women’s Resources must raise $300,000 to support these services and this year, they have a special project underway to renovate and refurbish the bedrooms in the shelter.
