BRUNSWICK PUBLIC FOUNDATION AWARDS MORE THAN $200,000 IN 2020 GRANTS

The Brunswick Public Foundation, a not-for-profit corporation, announced today that five organizations have received a total of $215,000 in charitable grants in 2020. Recipients include (in alphabetical order):

• Alliance for the Great Lakes, which since 1970, has sought to conserve and restore the world’s largest freshwater resource.

• American Rivers, which since 1973, has worked to protect wild rivers, restore damaged rivers, and conserve clean water for people and nature.

• FishAmerica Foundation, which since 1983, has supported restoring marine and estuary habitat, improving water quality, increasing fish populations and advancing fisheries research.

• The Ocean Conservancy, which since 1972, educates and empowers citizens to take action on behalf of the ocean and for their continued support of the ICC and Good Mate program.

• Perry Institute for Marine Science and Coral Reef Restoration, which since 1970, has been dedicated to protecting our oceans through research that both informs the public and encourages action, and for their continued support of the resilience of coral reefs in The Bahamas through their coral restoration and improved marine resource management. 

Since 2016, the Brunswick Public Foundation has made grants of over $1.5 million to qualifying charitable organizations and more than $6 million since it began awarding grants in 1998.  These grants help fund a variety of marine conservation and community welfare initiatives.

Established in 1997, the Brunswick Public Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation that supports community development primarily through contributions to pre-selected United Way organizations or other charitable organizations that reflect employees’ interest. In addition, it supports organizations that enhance the country’s water resources for public recreational use.  Financial commitments by the Brunswick Public Foundation are more than $6 million since it began awarding grants in 1998.

Duncan Peacock, resident of Kitimat BC and member of Kitimat Marine Search and Rescue and RCMSAR Unit 63, has been awarded the 12th annual Tim Jones Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Outdoor Community in British Columbia.

Peacock has been a member of Kitimat Marine Search and Rescue and RCMSAR Unit 63 for 31 years, making him one of the longest-serving members in the province.
