CALGARY BOAT AND SPORTSMEN’S SHOW STARTS FEBRUARY 9TH

The 2017 Calgary Boat and Sportsmen’s Show is coming to the BMO Centre, Stampede Park, February 9-12th.

Water sports and activities have long been a popular activity for many Albertans. The fun, freedom and serenity when you are out on the water is something that can be enjoyed by all members of the family, young or old.
If you plan on spending time casting a line or trolling the waterways in search of “the big one” The Fishin’ Hole’s Super Spring Sale is where you will find everything you need. Knowledgeable staff will be on hand to provide expert advice and ensure you have everything you need from waders and rods to lures and line.

Many outdoor enthusiasts dream of fishing off the West Coast for halibut or salmon, or flying into a remote lake to try your hand at catching some of the local species is a bucket list item for many. Introducing kids to all that the outdoors has to offer is easy when you come to the Calgary Boat and Sportsmen’s Show. The hunting and fishing simulators and hands on displays provided by the Alberta Hunter Education Instructor’s Association (AHEIA) Zone are sure to peak the interest of seasoned and aspiring outdoorsmen alike.
The Alberta Birds of Prey Centre presents “Bird Talks.” These sessions are engaging and highlight some of the individual stories of injured birds of prey that have been brought into the Centre, rehabilitated and released back into the wild. This is an opportunity to get up close and personal to some of the residents including various owls, a golden eagle, and hawks.
The West Coast Lumberjack Mountain Show presented by Husqvarna will be a crowd pleaser. Current and former Canadian champions will demonstrate their speed and agility in head to head competition. A variety of disciplines will be featured including log rolling, springboard chop, cross cut sawing and others. Bring the family, pick your favourite team and cheer them on.
In keeping with the lumberjack theme, professional chainsaw carver Kevin Lewis will be carving live at the show . Kevin is known for creating functional pieces of art that reflect his personal style. Stop in and watch the progress as the pieces come together.
The Kid’s trout fishing pond provides an opportunity for youngsters under the age of 12 to cast a line and try and catch and release a live trout. For many, this is their first time holding a rod let alone catching a fish. All proceeds go to the Calgary and Sarcee Fish and Game Associations.
Thursday, February 9th is Camo Day at the Calgary Boat and Sportsmen’s Show. Come dressed in your best camo for a chance to win cash prizes.
On Friday, January 10 the Bigfoot Field Research Organizations (BFRO) will hold and Open House to discuss the ongoing field and laboratory investigations in an attempt to prove or disprove the existence of Bigfoot/Sasquatch. Many of the sightings in recent years have been from those who spend a great deal of time in the outdoors. Plenty of opportunity to share your experiences and theories will be provided.
The outdoor stage will be a beehive of activity throughout the weekend. Taking the stage will be well known Canadian outdoorsmen including TJ Schwanky, Wes David, host of Fishing the Wild West, fly fisherman and guide Josh Nugent and special guest Hank Patterson comedian and fly-fishing expert. When Hank takes the stage on Friday, he will entertain audiences with the focus on hunting, fishing and outdoor activities.
