Over 30 years ago, Bill Daniell, President of Kaitlin Corporation had a vision to create a series of master-planned resort style communities in Clarington Ontario. On June 19th was the Grand Opening Celebration of the Bowmanville Marina, (formerly known as the Port Darlington Marina) now owned by The Kaitlin Corporation.

There has been a great deal investment in the marina with the complete refurbishment of the Inns and suites, restaurant and event space with a capacity to host 30 to 300 people to suit a wide range of events. It was unfortunate that the opening event happened as the waters of Lake Ontario were hitting record levels and the slips were not able to be filled with boats flying their colours. We learned that 80 new employees have been hired already at the Bowmanville Marina. It is estimated that this figure could reach as high as 200 in the future. The Clarington, Ontario waterfront now includes two marinas owned by Kaitlin; the Bowmanville Marina and the Port of Newcastle Marina.

Bowmanville MarinaThe Bowmanville Marina has a fuel dock and pump-out facilities and a maximum slip length of 60.0 feet

Approximately 3,000 new homes and are being built in the Lakebreeze area and Port of Newcastle over a ten-year period and the marinas are an integral part of the communities’ waterfront. It is expected the 9,000 to 10,000 new residents will make this development their home. Key points are:
• Bowmanville is 35 minutes to Toronto,
• There are 10 km of waterfront trails
• Go Train extension is well underway and slated for completion 2024
• Highway 407 expansion to Bowmanville is progressing and on schedule for completion 2020

NMEA

The association is very well supported and virtually any significant marine electronics company that you could name, was represented there on the Exhibitor list at the Expo as well as all being NMEA members and very supportive of the organization.
