Michigan Boating Industries Association (MBIA) hires Workforce Development Director

Michigan Boating Industries Association

Jan 16, 2024

MBIA, the voice of Michigan’s recreational boating industry, welcomes Workforce Development Director Kelly Kerchoff to the Association.

“In the last few years, workforce development has grown to be the MBIA’s top priority,” said MBIA Executive Director Nicki Polan. “Cultivating and maintaining a workforce, especially marine technicians, is essential for our members and our industry to keep boats on the water. The Workforce Development Director position is new for our Association, and it is necessary to elevate the work already underway. We are excited to watch the programs grow with Kelly’s expertise and ambition.”

Kerchoff is responsible for creating career awareness to include building and maintaining relationships with secondary counselors and students. In addition, she will grow, support, and promote post-secondary marine educational programs and professional development for the current workforce.  And ultimately build a program to invite our aging technicians to become our next generation teachers.

Kerchoff joins the Association with more than 15 years of experience in education and has an MA in Teaching and Learning from Madonna University.

MBIA is the official, state-wide marine industry association which serves as the voice for Michigan’s $11.7 billion marine industry and the four million people who enjoy Michigan’s nearly one million registered boats.  The MBIA is dedicated to the advancement, protection, and promotion of boating across Michigan.
