Eight bells Brian Minton

Brian Minton

Apr 2, 2024

The family of Brian Minton sadly announced his passing on March 18th at 76 years old.  Born in Toronto to Virginia Minton and William James Minton, Brian is survived by Katherine, his son Ryan Butler of Toronto (Mihi Joshi) and his brother Tim Minton of Naples, Florida.

Brian grew up in Don Mills and always had a taste for an adventurous life.  His first job was working for Koffler Drugs, the predecessor to Shoppers Drug Mart.  He then went on to be a successful salesperson, selling clothing, appliances and then started working in Media.   His position with the Newspaper Marketing Bureau brought together his marketing skills with his love of the printed newspaper.  To the end he still read a printed paper every day.  He moved on to the Radio Bureau of Canada, then joined Moffat Communications, where he set up a new national representative company.  When Moffat was sold, Brian began his entrepreneurial career working with CITY-TV as a consultant and created a Cityline marketing and loyalty program. His next business was combining his passion for marketing and boating – PowerBoat TV.  Brian expanded the PowerBoat TV and Boats & Places magazine family through the development of an online boat buying data base, creating a truly multi-marketing platform.  He was always an innovator and looked for ways for his clients to grow their business.

His happiest times were spent boating.  He started out with a sailboat in Lake Ontario then moved to powerboating on Lake Simcoe and finally Georgian Bay.  Brian, Katherine and Ryan spent 25 years boating on Georgian Bay and had many wonderful adventures on Soundwave.  And a few unfortunate meetings with underwater hazards!!

Brian moved to Florida in 2021 and enjoyed his last few years in the sun.

The association is very well supported and virtually any significant marine electronics company that you could name, was represented there on the Exhibitor list at the Expo as well as all being NMEA members and very supportive of the organization.
