Ewincher Launches SailForce 2, Expanding its New Generation of Electric Winches to Larger Sailing Yachts
June 30, 2026
Ewincher announces the commercial launch of SailForce 2, its new electric winch motor designed for larger winch sizes. More powerful and delivering greater torque, SailForce 2 extends the SailForce range and brings advanced control, safety and energy efficiency to a wider range of sailing yachts.
Traditional electric winches have greatly simplified onboard maneuvers, but most still operate in a fairly basic “on/off” mode: once activated, the motor runs at a non-adjustable speed, often very fast, leaving limited control to the user. This can make precise sail trimming more difficult and increase the risk of damage to deck hardware.
With SailForce, Ewincher introduces a new generation of electric winches, designed around three major advantages: greater control, improved safety and reduced electrical consumption.
The new SailForce 2 has been developed for larger winch sizes. It is equipped with a 1,500 W brushless outrunner motor, delivering up to 120 Nm of torque depending on the configuration, with motor efficiency of up to 75%. It complements the SailForce 1 motor, which delivers 1,250 W, up to 82 Nm of torque and up to 72% efficiency. In addition to its strong performance, SailForce 2 stands out for its compact design. At only 184 mm high, regardless of winch size, it is among the most compact electric winch motor solutions on the market.
Both SailForce 1 and SailForce 2 offer two variable speeds, allowing sailors to intuitively adjust winch speed during maneuvers. Instead of a traditional on/off button, the user controls the speed progressively: the harder they press, the faster the winch turns. This technology makes it possible both to take in a sheet quickly under low load and to carry out precise, controlled trimming when fine adjustment is required. The system can maintain a very low minimum line speed, around 1 m/min — approximately 1.7 cm/s — or less depending on the winch size and configuration, even under load.
One of SailForce’s key safety features is its ultra-sensitive tension limiter. The user can define a maximum line tension for each maneuver, and the motor stops immediately when that limit is reached. This helps protect sails, halyards, sheets and deck equipment in the event of an abnormal situation, such as a stuck reefing line, a jammed slider or a knot caught in a block. The system also makes it possible to store different tension limits in dedicated Maneuver Programs, for example for hoisting the mainsail, furling the genoa or trimming a sheet.
For greater onboard comfort, SailForce can be configured with different command units. Essential Command provides local winch control, while Advanced Command adds real-time line tension monitoring and centralized control. A full configuration allows sailors to operate the winch both from the winch itself and from the helm. The centralized control system can also operate multiple SailForce electric winches from the cockpit.
SailForce also introduces a different approach to electrical consumption. Rather than drawing very high current directly from the boat’s service batteries, each SailForce motor uses its own lithium buffer battery. SailForce 1 operates with a 30 V battery with a capacity of 144 Wh, while SailForce 2 uses a 36 V battery with a capacity of 216 Wh. This buffer battery powers the winch during use, then gradually recharges from the boat’s 12 V, 24 V or 48 V service battery system. This architecture limits the current drawn from the service batteries to between 1.6 A and 9 A depending on the configuration, helping preserve the boat’s electrical system.
“SailForce is not simply an electric motor added to a winch,” said Bruno Rabu, CEO and founder of Ewincher. “It is a complete rethink of electric winch operation. With variable speed, real-time line tension monitoring, tension limiting and reduced electrical consumption, SailForce gives sailors more control, more safety and more comfort on board.”
SailForce 2 is now available for sale, enabling the SailForce range to meet the needs of a broader range of boats and winch sizes.
SailForce is available as a complete electric winch solution, as well as conversion kits for selected compatible manual winch models and sizes.
