ICOMIA APPOINTS NEW TECHNICAL MANAGER

The International Council of Marine Industry Associations (ICOMIA) welcomed its newest member to the Secretariat. Patrick Hemp will with immediate effect take over as Technical Manager – representing ICOMIA on technical legislative and standardisation issues covering recreational craft, restricted range superyachts and equipment including marine engines.

Patrick, a naval architect with almost 20- years’ project management and design experience, is from Cape Town, South Africa with dual UK citizenship.

Having started off working full-time as professional crew on board privately owned superyachts, Patrick developed a passion for design and in June 2004 graduated from The Landing School Yacht Design Programme in Maine, US, and it was here he learnt the intricacies of yacht design as well as conforming to industry standards.

Patrick’s sailing highlights include crewing on the J Class Endeavour for two and a half years and racing her in the Americas Cup Jubilee; taking Kentra (a Fife) down to Cape Horn/Falklands and racing on classic yachts like Altair and Shenandoah in the Mediterranean circuit.

About a month ago, I traveled to Charlevoix, MI for a special press event to introduce the H9 to a small group of journalists. The water and the weather were a bit cool but the sun was out and Lake Charlevoix was calm and the Four Winns H9 was very impressive. This is a 29-foot 11-inch luxury day boat with a 9- foot 2-inch beam and it features a fabulous expansive flat floor all the way from the bow rider area to the transom and the swim platform.
