The Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 379 Names “Boat of the Year” in Two Key Categories

Cruising World magazine announced the winners of its 19th annual Boat of the Year awards. The Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 379 was named Best Midsize Cruiser 36 to 40 feet and the best Domestic Boat of the Year.

The all-new, Marc Lombard designed Sun Odyssey 379 has been making waves all around the globe. Since its official introduction at the Sydney Boat Show in Australia, the boat has proven adaptable to the needs of every sailing area. With 3 keel versions, including a specially-designed winged shoal keel and a beachable swing keel version, along with several sail plans and interior layouts the Sun Odyssey 379 has something for every sailor.

The Sun Odyssey 379 won the two prestigious awards from an independent panel of experts, who inspected and tested 22 nominated boats following the U.S. Sailboat Show in Annapolis, USA, earlier this year. Decisions were based on extensive dockside inspections and sea trials of the boats.

“The Sun Odyssey 379 was the whole package, a boat that sails exceedingly well with a smart, functional layout,” said Boat of the Year director and Cruising World senior editor Herb McCormick. “The judging panel was particularly impressed with the boat’s dual helms and outstanding manoeuvrability under sail and power.”

Built for U.S. and Canadian markets in South Carolina, USA, the Sun Odyssey 379 is also built in France and is currently among the finalists for the European Yacht of the Year 2012.
