ABYC NAMES NEW VP, EDUCATIONAL DIRECTOR

Ed Sherman

The American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) has promoted Ed Sherman to the position of VP and educational director. The announcement was made at the organization’s annual meeting in Seattle.

In his previous role as director of educational programming, Sherman was responsible for the development and updating of ABYC certification and training programs. As the organization’s lead instructor, he regularly presented on educational and technical topics at marine industry events.

As VP and educational director, Sherman represents ABYC’s education initiatives and programs worldwide. He leads the response to the increasing need for training and quality curriculum. His position plays a significant role in ensuring safer boating through quality, standards-based repair and construction.

“In actuality, Ed has been performing these services for ABYC for quite some time,” said John Adey, ABYC president. “He’s been the face of, and driving force behind, our educational endeavors and products for the past 15 years. I’m very proud to make this announcement and am looking forward to working with him in this new capacity.”

“I’m flattered by the council’s vote of confidence in my work,” said Sherman. “As always, my goal is to ensure that ABYC remains a leader in marine industry certifications and training programming.”

Sherman is the author of five books on marine power and electrical systems and co-authored ABYC’s popular textbook, Fundamentals of Marine Service Technology. In addition, he is an award-winning writer for several well-known magazines including Boating, Cruising World, Practical Sailor, Professional Boat Builder, Soundings and Yachting.
