ABYC’s SUR/TECH (Surveyor/Technician), a bi-annual symposium geared toward our largest member segments, is back for its third year in 2025! This two-day hybrid event divides content between topics relevant to surveyors (Day 1) and technicians (Day 2). Join us online or at our ABYC headquarters in Annapolis, MD and gain a well-rounded, educational experience and earn up to 10 CEUs!

Day 1 – Surveyors

            • Insurance claims handling and the investigation process  

            • Fire scene best practices—an investigation into a potential lithium-ion failure  

            • Marina & boatyard fires—cause & effect

            • The role of infrared thermography and pyrometers for both surveyors and technicians

Day 2 – Technicians

            • Fire & alarm systems—installation, testing and troubleshooting

            • What’s new on 48-volt DC platforms

            • Servicing a boat’s aging electrical system

            • Understanding lithium-ion battery technology—installations to ABYC standards

Duncan Peacock, resident of Kitimat BC and member of Kitimat Marine Search and Rescue and RCMSAR Unit 63, has been awarded the 12th annual Tim Jones Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Outdoor Community in British Columbia.

Peacock has been a member of Kitimat Marine Search and Rescue and RCMSAR Unit 63 for 31 years, making him one of the longest-serving members in the province.

2025 is a pretty special year for RS Sailing, who are celebrating 10 years of the RS Quest! This training dinghy has become the go-to for sailing schools and youth programs all over the world. Initially created in partnership with the UK Sea Cadets to replace their aging fleet, designer Jo Richards and the RS Sailing development team wanted to make sure the RS Quest was built to break the mould.
