The Thunder Returns: Toronto Hydroplane & Sailing Club Celebrates 75 Years

June 9, 2026

The Toronto Hydroplane & Sailing Club (TH&SC) announces its 75th Anniversary celebration on Saturday, June 13, 2026. In a spectacular nod to its roots, the club will bring the “thunder” back to the Ashbridges Bay waterfront, featuring legendary vintage hydroplanes and a public open house.

Founded in 1951 as the Toronto Hydroplane Club (THC), the organization was originally the epicenter for local powerboat enthusiasts. The club began welcoming sailors in 1964 and officially became the Toronto Hydroplane & Sailing Club in the 1970s. Today, it remains a vital community hub for those who love the water.

Hero Boats on the Water

To commemorate three-quarters of a century, the annual Club Sailpast will feature a rare reunion of power and wind. The Canadian Raceboat Hall of Fame (CRHF) is bringing history to life with two legendary “hero boats” that will take to the water:

  • CE4 Pure Canadian: A staple of Canadian racing heritage.
  • The Molinari: The iconic vessel piloted by racing legend Mark Rotharmel.

The celebration will also include static displays and representation from the Toronto Outboard Racing Club and the Antique Outboard Motor Club, offering a nostalgic look at the golden age of Canadian powerboat innovation.

Public Open House Details

The TH&SC invites the public and media to experience the club’s heritage and vibrant community firsthand:

Date: Saturday, June 13, 2026

Time: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM

About Toronto Hydroplane and Sailing Club

the Toronto Hydroplane & Sailing Club is a vibrant,

member-run community dedicated to providing affordable access to Toronto’s waterfront. While our heritage is rooted in the high-octane world of 1950s hydroplane racing, we have evolved into a premier destination for sailing enthusiasts and paddlesports. Built on a foundation of sportsmanship and volunteerism.

About The Canadian Raceboat Hall of Fame

Located five minutes from Bracebridge, Ontario, in the heart of Muskoka, the CRHF tells the story of Canada’s success, past and present, in national and international boat racing. Celebrating Canadian innovations and achievements on the water, the Hall of Fame refreshes its exhibits annually to share stories from across the nation.
