Pat Nelder retires from Boating Atlantic

Pat Nelder

April 5, 2021

For the past 23 years there has been no greater contributor to sailing and power boating in Nova Scotia than Patricia (Pat) Nelder. And today (March 31, 2022) Pat retires from her role as Executive Director of Boating Atlantic. Her contributions have made a significant impact right across Atlantic Canada.

A boat-builder with her husband Keith at Big Pond Boat Shop, she also organized the Halifax International Boat Show with support from the team at Master Promotions Ltd. She was a staunch and effective advocate for boaters as a representative on a number of Transport Canada Marine Safety Committees including Chair of the Regional Boating Advisory Committee.

A lifelong racer herself it was only natural that she would become Chair of Chester Race Week, Canada’s largest keelboat regatta.

And when she re-located from Cape Breton to Mahone Bay a number of years ago, she founded the Indian Point Yacht Club and became its Commodore, a position she still holds. The club now has 30 members and organizes a full slate of activities for members and friends during the sailing months.

She was a Director with the Nova Scotia Boatbuilders Association and spearheaded the creation of an Atlantic Boating Guide.

Pat is a great friend to everyone at Sail Nova Scotia and could always be relied upon for guidance, to explain complicated government regulations, and to discuss ideas to get more Nova Scotians to enjoy our beautiful waters.

An absolute pleasure to work with, Pat will be sorely missed by all. Her efforts will have a lasting impact for years to come.

Pat – The Boating Community raises a toast to you and Keith today!
