New Technology Expands LED Light Strip Control

LED Light Strip Control

Mar 25, 2025

The latest boating must-have is programable LED lighting strips. The new Shadow-Caster SCM-DLC-3CH Digital Light Controller makes it easy to program and operate three separate digitally addressable strips that create dazzling light shows. For larger vessels and/or those with unique layouts, adding a pair of SCM-DLC-TX-RX Digital Light Controller Extenders adapts this technology to be used up to 50′ from the controller.

The three-channel Digital Light Controller can be used as a standalone product or networked into a Shadow-NET-enabled device such as the Shadow-Caster Light Commander. A mere 3.5″ x 2.6″ x 1.2″, the DLC-3CH controller and connectors are waterproof to IP67 standards. Running on 12V DC, it powers up to 10 amps of digital lighting. Digital overcurrent protection and a backlit power indicator ensure safe, simple and reliable operation. Twelve unique light shows are pre-programmed into the device; a video demonstration is at www.bit.ly/Shadow-Caster-SCM.

When the boat doesn’t accommodate a standard LED lighting configuration with the DLC-3CH, Digital Light Controller Extenders make it simple to adapt. Used in pairs, the modules can be wired as either transmitters or receivers. The former converts the one-wire signal from a standard WS protocol to a two-wire differential signal. Conversely, used as a receiver, it will take the two-wire signal and convert it back to a standard single-wire protocol. Both the controller and extenders are simple for OEMs and DIYers to install and use.

Backed by a three-year warranty, the Shadow-Caster SCM-DLC-3CH Digital Light Controller costs $189.99 USD; SCM-DLC-TX-RX Digital Light Controller Extenders run $26.25 USD each; and a combination of the controller and three extenders is $229 USD. Digital Accent Light Strips start at $229 USD.
